News - What Is Going On With Warzone 2 Zombies And Warzone

activision layoffs

We've got so much to talk about today, from some quite exciting and incredibly weird news about what's coming next to Modern Warfare Zombies. Yes, there is going to be something coming next, but it's maybe a little bit different from what you might expect, from the terrible layoffs that have affected Microsoft companies, including Activision, and the studios that work on Call of Duty.

In this article, we're going to talk about all of that, and you've got some gameplay from one of the best games of War Zone I've played in a long time. The sponsor of today's article is Holy Holy, a drinks company that wants to make soft drinks healthy. They've got a range of energy drinks, but they also have iced teas that have no added sugar or caffeine and just some hydrating, isotonic drinks with minerals that don't have any sugar or caffeine in them.

They taste great, and they've sent me a bunch to try. So Call of Duty, let's start with some good news to kick off this article on a positive note: Modern Warfare zombies are not ending. Last week I did a article where I said it seems super strange what's going on with Modern Warfare Zombies I thought maybe the whole thing was over maybe it was getting cancelled, because Treyarch could put a tweet out saying it has been a blast they were talking in the past tense saying mon Warfare Zombies has been a blast and they were putting a load of items into our inventories to kind of say goodbye it seemed like, so I took that to mean along with the lack of content in season 1 reloaded, and the fact that they weren't a part of the boys event that's going on at the moment that maybe mwz was just over that it hadn't been successful and had decided to can it but then somebody else posted a tweet which completely threw all of that into question.

Clone and Kill, a Twitter user who is also a developer on Call of Duty games, just wanted to say we are cooking for season 2 MWZ content, and that's super exciting because, basically, as far as I'm concerned, it confirms that we are getting zombie content for season 2, but the really weird thing is that Clone and Kill doesn't work at Treyarch; they work at Infinity Ward.

gaming

Now people who have been following Call of Duty over the last few years will know that Call of Duty is worked on by loads of different Studios, and they all kind of have their own areas of expertise their own kind of products within Call of Duty, but then sometimes they help each other out with other things now as far as we knew Infinity Ward had worked on Modern Warfare 2 so last year's game and then because they'd worked on that they'd also worked on war zone 2 they had worked on DMZ that was entirely Infinity Wards thing Raven had literally nothing to do with that which came as a surprise to me they had done the raids and they' done Spec Ops and obviously they' done multiplayer for Modern Warfare 2 and then in that game Treyarch had actually worked on the ranked multiplayer, but nothing else.

Then, with this year's Call of Duty, Sledgehammer had actually been working on Modern Warfare 3, so the campaign was in multiplayer. Treyarch had continued to work on ranked multiplayer. Raven had taken over on war zone, so they now run war zone completely, as far as I knew. Treyarch was the only one working on MWZ, or Modern Warfare Zombies.

geeky pastimes

It seemed to be a Treyarch thing, and obviously they're the people who normally work on zombies. They had also done Vanguard Zombies mode, which was kind of terrible, but anyway, I thought MWZ was just a Treyarch thing. That seemed a little bit weird when MWZ first launched because, as soon as it launched, lots of people noticed that it was basically like DMZ.

There were lots and lots of similarities to DMZ, to the point where in some of the loading screens. I think it was Westy or Stod that noticed it actually said DMZ beta in the top left of the screen when you were loading into the game, so it looked like it was maybe running on some code that was somehow connected to DMZ.

So that seems strange because Infinity Ward made DMZ, as far as I can tell, without any of the other studios helping out on it, and Treyarch was supposedly making this zombie mode. So for an Infinity War developer to be the one saying that they were working on exciting content for Mon Warfare Zombies, that kind of made me question a few things, like.

modern warfare zombies

I don't really understand what's happening, but here are what I think are the possibilities. One is that Infinity Ward and Triarch have been working together on this since the beginning; that wouldn't be that surprising. Obviously infinity W developers would have learned some stuff working on DMZ, and then they could be helping Treyarch sort of develop MWZ.

Using DMZ as a base, they're all working together, which makes perfect sense in which case season 2 is coming; there's new content and nothing is changing. If that is the case, it kind of makes sense that when they were doing advertising for Modern Warfare 3, they would just say that MWZ was Treyarch's thing because people identified Treyarch with the Zombie franchise.

moments

And you know they want more zombie stuff from Treyarch, so it makes sense to say that they're in charge of it, and I definitely know Treyarch was a big part of MWZ because at COD next, the person who came out to talk to us was from Treyarch, like it was presented entirely as a Treyarch thing. So another possibility which makes a bit more sense with that tweet Treyarch out is that Treyarch are no longer working on mwz, and I think this is entirely possible that maybe they set up mwz in the same way that Infinity Ward set up war zone 2 then handed it off to Raven maybe Treyarch set up mwz, and are now handing it off to Infinity Ward maybe the team who were previously working on DMZ because that doesn't seem to be getting content anymore maybe they're now ready to start working on mwz and they're going to take it off Treyarch, while the rest of Treyarch carry on working with their new game that's going to be coming out later this year which I assume will have a fully fledged Zombies mode in it and potentially you know it might have something like mwz maybe the next steps of it maybe we'll have outbreak to or maybe it'll just be round based who knows.

mw3 zombies

I was told at Codex that Treyarch is a very small studio. Like when they invited a few people to go see zombies at Codex, they really didn't take many visitors at all. I think maybe 15 to 20 people went down to Treyarch, and part of the reasoning given for not showing all of us zombies was that it's just a small studio; they don't have a huge amount of space there.

It's much easier to manage if they just select a small group to do it with. If this is true, Treyarch has now dropped MWZ. That does explain the tweet as to why Treyarch said it has been a blast and then never clarified what they meant by that, and it explains why an Infinity War developer is now saying they're working on season 2 content.

So much has happened in the last week, I think it's time to talk about it. New content coming to MWZ in Season 2 confirmed at last, but not what you think, and how are mass layoffs at Activision going to affect Warzone next Season.
