News - Warzone's New Update Will Blow Your Mind. Season 1 Reloaded Update & Patch Notes

War Zone 3's first major update, season 1 reloaded, is coming on January 17th, but with it comes something that might break the game, and it has Call of Duty. Twitter and the community at large are extremely mad, so let's just kind of start from the beginning. I'm on the way home from work and I get a text from one of my buddies that says you got to hop on Twitter and check this out, so of course I do so, and this is what I see with the War Zone season 1 related update.

Next week, we'll be introducing Covert Xville, a challenging new way to escape the match that provides players with one of two methods to secure the weapon case. Successfully extracting via covert XFI does not count as a traditional win but rather as a separate stat and will not count towards Champion Quest progress.

More details and design attempts will be provided in the patch notes next week, okay? So what is this covert XFI? Well, it's going to be a little controversial if you start reading the comments here. There are people that are in the Call of Duty community; you can see one, Thing. Nobody likes it.

I actually do see some W's in here, surprisingly, but a lot of people are saying that they think that this is going to ruin Call of Duty: Battle Royale. I'm begging you guys to make this cover X mechanic a separate LTM. The game is finally in a good place, and now we have this. So what does this Cover X mechanic do?

What's it going to do? I'm going to fill you guys in on, like, how it works and how to get it, so when the game does drop, you can check it out and then kind of talk about why this might be one of the worst things War Zone's ever added but why it could also be good. Boom, because we're lazy, and I spelled it wrong.

There we go. I was a little too lazy, but if we look at covert xfill here, a new way to escape players can now xfill the match early with the help of a covert xfill offering a new win condition. Right, this is what everybody's mad about for those able to pay the price for the ride out if you can secure it.

So essentially, when you go to the buy station, you're going to be able to buy your load out all your regular stuff, and there's going to be a very expensive covert xfill where you can actually throw a sort of loadout drop, a helicopter or chopper flies in, then you can xill out of the map escape, and you get rewards for doing so now.

We listen to players, look at the data, and if we overcook it, we'll correct it. My thoughts on this are that it's definitely going to be really hard to actually obtain based on what we know. So far. I'm thinking that you're going to have to do several contracts; you're going to have to spend most of the game looting to get this; it might not be in every buy station, or maybe you have to go to a separate sort of buy station to buy this, and I want to kind of draw an analogy here to foresight.

I don't know how many of you guys played dance back in the day when there was a foresight contract. Foresight could be bought for. I believe, $20,000, and it would give you essentially every circle in the game, so there used to be a recon contract you could do for dance, and unless I'm going crazy.

I don't think we have the recon contract, but I never really did them. If you did a recon contract, you got the next zone. If you did so many recons, you had every zone, and you could literally sit on the very last zone. Dance was kind of op. I did it a few times. I'm not going to lie. I know I apologize; please accept my apology for my mistake of getting a Rec.

a Recon contract. But foresight would basically give you all those Recon contracts there, and a lot of people would say that these were the players that were grinding wins, like the ratty players would go for the Recon contracts, right? This is kind of a different beast because you can literally get out of the game.

The only thing is that it doesn't really affect anybody, so doing the covert xill is not going to really affect anybody in the game, and if you do it, you can't get a Champions Quest win. So in the season-related update that's coming up, you can once again get five wins on Argan in a row or 30 wins total to get a nuke contract.

That doesn't count, so it isn't like a cheap way to continue your streak or get the win, or kind of like cheap over players when the go Lo closes, you can no longer throw the xfill, so you have this limited time to loot up buy it, and then you can kind of toss it, and then you're out of the game and you get rewards.

Now, a lot of people don't like it because they feel like this is a DMZ aspect, and maybe this is War Zone's way of continuing DMZ. We've known this was coming into the game; it was kind of speculated. I was told on Twitter that it was something that was coming. I'm not too sure how I feel about it, but the one thing I will say is that if this is in resurgence.

I think there's too little of a Lobby already in terms of player count to put that in resurgence, and you could actually argue that for the ERS stand too, maybe you need to up the player count if you're going to put this in as long as we don't have five teams doing this. I don't think it's going to affect the game as much as people think.

I am on the side of optimism and try to be generally positive. I'm going to check out a tweet here for you guys by Ted Timmons, who is the head developer or head of Raven Software. This new feature is one I really believe in. It's challenging to pull off, and I expect less than one successful covert Expo per match.

It gives players a path to earn new rewards from the weapon case and creates new engagement, which has been great for mid-game pacing, so essentially the covert xfill is kind of like an in-game event of sorts that is just available a little bit more now that we have a lot of events in the war zone, such as public loadout drops in the war zone Battle Royale ukhan.

Those are the yellow loadouts that Dro in at the beginning; there's fire sails. In War Zone 1, you used to be able to make Easter eggs. Go to bunkers; Rebirth Island even had Easter eggs you could open. It's not new for Call of Duty to add these sorts of events to battle royale. I just want to preface this.

What is different about this is that you can actually leave the match, and it's sort of counted as a win now. And I'm going to be honest, man, we've had some bad updates in War Zone. Right, War Zone 2 started off like a cousin to Oscar the Grouch because it was absolute trash; we couldn't even play and run; we couldn't do any of that, and over time, War Zone 2 was improving.

Honestly, as much as Giannis Ono's jumper, it really wasn't going anywhere, and now all the sudden people want to call this the worst update. Well, here's the thing: We won't know until it actually drops. I'm not going to lie, though it doesn't sound great in terms of why you drop in a battle royale—to be the last one standing.
