News - The Huge Warzone 2 Zombies Update That Changes Everything
Maybe the updates weren't good enough to keep the player count long-term only for a couple of season seasons, hence why they had to introduce these microtransactions, right, the benefit bundles. So maybe it's not a good idea if zombies go free to play through War Zone. because then, in order to make money from the mode, they'll have to go ahead and introduce more of those benefit-type bundles, and we already have some that have been added, but they're so minuscule.
They're so simple. I mean, they don't really impact much; they're very limited-time consumables that you don't keep forever and aren't tied to an operator, but what if they did go aggressive with the MTX and tied benefits to an operator because the mode went free to play? That's why I'm thinking they probably won't go that route considering how successful the mode is now behind the pay wall. Why would they go back on ?.
Outbreak 3.0 could drop late for cod 2024
So what I think is that with Black Ops 2024. The game will launch with round-based and probably some other exciting content, but then later in the year, like towards season 2 or three of that game cycle similar to Cold War, you'll get an outbreak type mode added via a post-launch update, but it's still technically behind the pay wall since if you don't own the game, you can't download that content with the new season right; it won't be tied to the war zone, so that's probably what they'll do instead of having the outbreak content be on dis at all; they'll just have round-based be that content, that's what I think they'll end up planning when it comes to how to release zombies in the future, although we'd all love to see a free-to-play zombie experience that opens up the door to everybody, including more war zone players.
I don't think they'll do that considering the success of MW3 zombies. It's proven to them now that they can charge for an open-world experience like that, and people will buy it. Obviously, it's a modern warfare game, so you can argue. I mean, it would have sold well anyway. Yeah, you can argue that, but if they are saying the player count is higher than anything that Modern Warfare has ever done for a DMZ for a spec ops survival, then you know people out there are definitely playing zombies this year, and I think the one-year gap also helped with that for sure.
Round based coming back better than ever
Now, what I also want to emphasize is that this doesn't mean round base isn't coming back in its full glory. I know people out there could look at the statement as the outbreak was so successful in Modern Warfare 3 that they'll maybe abandon round base and stick with this open-world extraction-type experience.
That's not what I think is happening at all. I mean, it's already been confirmed by Treyarch that they're working on more round-based. I mean, the leaks out there have been pretty crazy. There's at least two round-based maps coming with the launch of Black Ops 2024, one on an island with the prison and another one in a city, so round base isn't going anywhere right.
I'm glad it took a break from it this year in a game that isn't fully theirs. I'm glad Trey is maybe cooking even harder for round bases, and we'll see what they've been working on with Black Ops 2024. But I don't want people out there to panic and assume that because of the success of this one mode, it's going to eliminate another.
No more dmz, spec ops or survival mode?
What I actually think is going to get eliminated is the possibility of ever seeing a spec of survival or even DMZ ever again. Considering the success of zombies in a modern warfare game. I always think it'll be a priority to make some type of zombies experience because it'll always have a higher player play based than any of the Modern Warfare third modes that we've seen, and it's probably obvious the zombies would perform a lot better than a spec ops or a survival.
But I'm sure hardcore Modern Warfare players out there might not be happy to know that there's even a chance DMZ never returns now. Maybe they charge for it one day, but then it looks kind of silly that DMZ was once free to play now. It's going to be behind the pay wall. I'd hope DMZ would come back.
I really enjoyed covering it over the course of the MW2 cycle. I'm sure you guys like some of the coverage here on the channel. I like the MZ for what it is. I think it's a good alternative to zombies. If it were handled a little bit differently when it comes to some of the post-launch updates that we got after, let's say, season 4. I think it has a lot of potential to be that third mode for Modern Warfare, but now I think it's up in the air considering the statement from the Cod general manager.
Closing statements
But that is about it. This has been DK Dynamite. Leave our thoughts. I really hope you've enjoyed it. Peace out, everybody.
