Surprise free access update for modern warfare 3
We actually saw a sort of surprise reveal for the new free update. The first free update is coming to Modern Warfare 3 and Modern Warfare Zombies this year, so you can actually have some free access to the premium version of the game. We also got word of a new event update coming shortly, as well as a couple of other new updates and changes that have been previewed via Call of Duty updates, so lots of details get into today as we do so.

You already know I've got you covered with news updates, patch notes, and meta breakdowns; it's all right here, so feel free to hit that sub button and turn on those post notifications. So in game right now, you might actually notice that in the events tab we do have a new announcement for the Dune trial of power events, and this will be starting in 23 hours and 55 minutes from the time that I'm recording this, a.k.a., tomorrow.
Alongside the routine weekly Wednesday update when we get a brand new weekly challenge update with a new aftermarket part or potential weapon dropping there alongside the usual playlist updates to follow that as well on Thursday, so we do have a new event dropping this week and then obviously. Next week, on the 20th, we're going to end up seeing the Santa Sligh Ground event go live as well, but that's now official.
New free access update for mw3/warzone/zombies
We've got yet another new weekly update and weekly challenge event incoming this week, but then today Call of Duty announced the Modern Warfare 3 free access update that's starting on December 14th later this week and going until December 18th. And this includes Modern Warfare zombies and Modern Warfare multiplayers, so if you are just a free-to-play player right now within the War Zone but you're looking to maybe experience the multiplayer of MW3, you didn't want to spend that initial money on it to see if it was worth it and then not end up liking it.
You wanted to wait for this perfect time to jump on, but if you're also trying to optimize some of your camo challenges, whether it be for multiplayer, if you want to try out some of the zombie ones and maybe unlock some stuff there, or if you're trying to level up your guns a little bit quicker or more efficiently, do some stuff there.
This is going to be a great time to test that out again. This is going to be live from December 14th to the 18th. And here is what Call of Duty has to say: Drop into a variety of classic maps, plus the new season 1 meet map and three ground-war maps. War mode, modern warfare zombies, and more. Just in time for the holidays, get a taste of MW3 during the free access period from the 14th through the 18th.
Free-access players will experience a variety of multiplayer content throughout the event, from classic maps like high-rise rust and shipment to the new season 1 meet war and more. Then we also have an actual breakdown of all the full content, so meet as a 6v6 map is going to be available in this you're not getting the full every single, map every single mode access to multiplayer within this free event if you are a free-to-play player it's just limited but the offering here is pretty consistent for what we do have going on so meat is going to be great for just constant action it's a super small map it's going to be good for camo challenges leveling up guns you know playing kill confirmed hardcore on this is fantastic for weapon XP and whatnot.
Combat moves quickly on the small map we've got slain. The Horde in Modern Warfare zombies, so you can actually go through and play Zombies entirely for free, go through some of the AXS, maybe unlock some content there, and then of course do camo challenges rank up guns here as well in a much more stress-free environment doing the Spore contracts.
Outlast, or X fills, whatever the case may be. For that, we've also got the war mode with Operation Spearhead, so if you're looking to play this mode in a specific, little bit different way, it's still 6v6, but it takes a nice change of pace from standard 6v6 gameplay on larger maps. This is all supported maps and modes, so this is everything you'll end up getting with this new free access update.
So for 6v6, core maps, you'll be able to play terminal rust, high-rise shipment Afghan, and meat, so that's a pretty solid selection for trying to optimize any potential grinding experience, whether it's base rank XP weapon XP. Whatever the case may be, shipment meat rusts at all super-small Maps terminals.
High-rise is pretty fast-paced, and Afghan is just kind of a one-off in there as well. For Ground War, you'll be able to play Papov. Power Ora Military Base Leev Resort obviously has much larger maps, which are good for long shots if you're going for camo challenges there, and a nice change of pace from 6v6.
And then within this for the 6v6 maps, you'll be able to play TDM, hardpoint domination kill confirmed ground war, and then obviously war with its own specific map for play. There will be rustmen 24/7 during this event, so that's going to be shipment and rust. Keep in mind that weapon XP does seem to be a bit nerfed on shipment in particular because obviously you're getting so many kills, so they do try to balance that out.
It's kind of dumb, but it is. The war mode will have its own playlist. There will be a 6v6 mosh pit featuring high-rise meet Afghan and terminal. There will be a separate ground-war playlist, and then the Modern Warfare Zombies playlist will be available. As well, and of course they're doing this because they want you to buy MW3.
Right, but definitely a solid offering. Our first free access update for MW3 is now here. Keep in mind that usually these do happen about once per season, so this likely will be the full-on one for specifically season 1. Obviously, season 1 reloaded in the second half of the season; it's coming up in early 2024.
I'd be surprised if we saw another one, you know, in January or early February, but then we're going to see season 2 drop, probably in mid-February. We could potentially see another free access event coming up then, so if you're trying to base your mp play time and your zombies play time around this, it's about once per season.
This one's a bit shorter than in years's past; sometimes it's been like a full-on week of free access. This is obviously just a couple of days before the holidays.
