News - The Truth About The Dropshot & Why You Can't Win. Unfair Pc & Internet Advantage. Warzone 2 Mw3
All right, ladies and gentlemen, this is going to be a little bit more of a rant article on why, in my opinion, the drop shot should not be in the game and how it's actually putting a lot of you out there at a huge disadvantage. Just quickly, I will have a tip for you guys at the end of this article, showing you something I started doing a while ago to defend against the drop shot.
There's a good chance you guys are doing something that you don't even realize could actually hurt you whenever somebody drops shots, and make sure you stick around until the end because this tip will definitely apply to Modern Warfare 3 as well. So let me ask you guys a question. You start firing at them first, and then the next thing you know, they turn and hit you with what looks like two or three bullets, and you're dead.
You start screaming and yelling, wondering what the hell just happened, but then, when you watch the killcam, you realize that they weren't just standing there; they were actually shooting at you the entire time; it just never showed up like that on your screen. Well, if you guys have ever seen that before, that's what actually happens a lot of times whenever you die at the drop shop.
Now, there's a lot of factors that can go into this; it's going to depend on what kind of Internet you have, how close you are to the server, what kind of equipment you have, your PC monitor, old or new console, and even the response time for your individual controller. Everybody has different setups now; it's not like it was back before crossplay, when everything was even.
All these things are going to play a factor in whether or not you're getting the short end of the stick whenever you come across the drop-off shop. Now, really, the two main things that are going to affect this is going to be your internet and how close you are to the server that you're playing on.
When it comes to internet speed, it's going to matter. But a big factor is whether you have broadband cable internet or fiber optics. Now there's a lot of players out there that are stuck with low-speed cable internet, just because it's the only thing available in their area, myself included. My city actually has a deal with Spectrum, and they keep Filos out.
As a part of that deal, fiber optics are way faster and more reliable than cable, and when you get to play games like War Zone on them, you're getting a definite advantage over those of us stuck with cable. The same thing goes for players that live closer to the server; the signal there and back is going to be faster, giving you a distinct advantage over players that live further away.
Now, when it comes to the drop shot, both of these things and the other factors that I mentioned will make it, so if I'm on cable internet or I'm hundreds of miles away from the nearest server, and in my case, it's both, whenever somebody uses a drop shot against me. I'm dead before I even see them start dropping to the ground.
Now on their screen, they're already prone to getting the kill, and on mine, I'm shooting at a ghost. It happens to me all the time. How I know when it happens is that my shots will stop registering, and it'll feel like it's harder to move, and then once I watched the kill feed, I was dead way before it happened on my screen.
Now, because of skill-based matchmaking, there's a lot of players out there that can't get into lobbies under 70 ping, and if there's a bunch of players in that game that are, say, only 18 to 30 ping whenever they use the drop shot, they're getting a huge advantage. Now it takes me like 5 minutes or more before I'm able to even find a match just because of skill-based matchmaking, and how far away I am from the servers, most of the time I get 90 ping lobbies; it's rare I ever get into anything under 60, so I'm already behind most players as it is, but when it comes to somebody drop-shooting me.
I'm at a huge disadvantage. Now, if you think about it, drop-shotting is sort of like hammering somebody, where you won't show up on the screen yet because you came around the corner too fast. The only difference is that when you come to somebody, it actually takes skill; you still have to be able to find the enemy.
Snap At Target, you land your shots in an extremely short amount of time. The drop shot, on the other hand, takes zero skill; all you do is just press a button when you're in a fight, and it could put your opponent at a huge disadvantage. All right, so let's just say I'm in my normal 90-ping Lobby mode and somebody who's 20-ping Drop shots me; they're already going to be on the ground killing me while I'm still shooting at somebody who looks like they're standing up but who's not even there anymore.
Then, when you add the fact that my cable Internet isn't the greatest, it could end up being well over 100 milliseconds. Before I'm able to even start reacting to them going to the ground, another thing that I don't like about the drop shot is that way, way too many players use it as a crutch. Infinity W, with this last game, pretty much took out any type of movement that required any kind of advanced skill, but they left in the drop shot, which is completely overpowered.
That requires zero skill, and there's one simple reason why they did that: the majority of the players that used the drop shot back in Verdansk and Caldera were lower-skilled casual players, and that's who they catered to. Now, it was a little different with War Zone 2. A lot of the higher-skilled players used it as well, just because it was the only movement left, but that actually ended up making it even more unbalanced because a lot of the higher-skilled players have better PCs and faster internet.
Now I know a lot of people are just going to say you stink; your reaction time's just slow, but it's going to be the ones with high-speed fiber optic internet and low-ping lobbies that are saying it literally. If you're on cable internet and you get high pings, watch the killcam. I guarantee a lot of times you die faster in the killcam than what you remember happening live now.
From what I saw in the early modern warfare 3 War Zone gameplay, it looked to me that the drop shot might actually be even a little bit faster than it is now, and that's unfortunate because that's going to make it even more unbalanced for a lot of players out there now. I know it's been in Call of Duty forever, but with the time to kill in multiplayer, it's really not that big of a deal.
Nine times out of 10, you don't even get a chance to use it now. War Zone, on the other hand, or any other BR for that matter, has a longer time to kill, and then when you throw in crossplay, it just makes it a really unbalanced mechanic. Plus, it's kind of pay-to-win if you think about it, because it's going to depend on the equipment and the internet that you can afford.
