News - Warzone 2: Great News Revealed For The Next Major Update

cod modern warfare 2

Call of Duty announced the whole delay of season two, and since then, almost on a daily basis, in the past couple of days, we've been getting new reveals. They've talked more about how the gulag is going to be changing back to 1v1, how looting is going to be more like it was back in Wars on One, where the loot sort of explodes onto the ground and it's floating loot rather than just stuck in the backpack system, and, up until this point, we've heard a lot about War Zone 2's multiplayer changes and not so much about Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer changes, which is mildly unfortunate because obviously we paid 70 bucks for the multiplayer experience, and so far it's been kind of lackluster.

There hasn't been much attention on multiplayer; it seems like for a bit now it's been a lot of war zone and a lot of DMZ and not so much multiplayer, but that actually ended up changing today. We got some new breaking news regarding season two of Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer with a new surprise update that I don't think a lot of players saw coming.

If we go over to Infinity Ward's Twitter here, they posted this update today. HUD No, Problem Hardcore is back to follow season 2's multiplayer updates in our studio blog later this week, so this is particularly interesting. Obviously, they launched the Tier 1 mode with Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer, which is Hardcore but not really Hardcore because there's no kill feed and it's very bare bones and very basic, and it seems like for the most part, players are not super happy and super content with Tier 1 as a Hardcore replacement right now, so now they've gone through and actually said they're going to completely bring back Hardcore as a mode here in multiplayer, which means it's going to be just like the previous versions of Hardcore in Call of Duty MP where we know, what we love, and for cambo grinding for certain challenges.

This is a huge update. You may recall that with the initial delay, and I want to go back to that tweet here in just a bit, but you may recall that with that tweet, they mentioned we are postponing Season 2 and we are going to be implementing changes based on community feedback. And all these changes they've revealed so far are basically coming at complaints or coming from complaints.

I should say that from the community, it didn't seem like players were super happy with the 2v2 Gulag changes. Looting has been a hot topic since day one of War Zone 2, and a big thing with multiplayer is how players are not enjoying Tier One. For hardcore, it just doesn't feel the same, which doesn't hold the retention and probably doesn't hold the audience.

And now that they're finally going through with it and actually going to be reverting that, the question here is whether they're going to be completely replacing it. Tier 1 with hardcore, we're going to have to wait and see, but they do say obviously we're going to have this studio blog coming later this week, you know, in the next couple of days hopefully Tuesday. Wednesday, and Thursday.

More gameplay changes will be revealed soon

I imagine that in the coming days we're probably going to end up seeing a post about loadouts. Too obviously, back during that initial tweet, which will actually go here, they mentioned that there were going to be changes, for obviously the gulag looting and loadouts.

They've talked about Gulag and they've talked about looting, but we still have yet to hear anything on the loadout so far, so I'm hoping for some clarification and some more details on that here in the coming days, maybe tomorrow or Tuesday. Of course, whenever they end up posting anything.

Mw2 expectations for season 2␙s update

Treyarch ended up tweeting here, bringing some more hype to ranked play.

They were asked if it's going to be at the season 2 launch, and Treyarch's Community Manager ended up saying yes, there will be more details to share closer to the launch day too. So we know for a fact that on day one of the season 2 launch, now on February 15th, ranked play is going to be live in multiplayer.

That's confirmed but then they also say we're going to be getting new multiplayer maps—maps, as in plural—so at least two new multiplayer maps this time around. I'm really hoping that we see some new maps introduced rather than just remasters, which is really all we've had up until this point.

Obviously, hardcore is going to be a part of that, but hopefully we'll see some other things as well. for things like gunfights and things like that, so hopefully we get some info there also; weapons are pretty standard. Up until this point, really has not seen a ton of love since launch. It's gotten some updates and some changes here and there, but content-wise it seems kind of lackluster; the map count is a bit lower; and there's not a whole lot going on there.

So season two is a really big opportunity to turn that around, and actually later today most likely I'm going to have a second article go live talking about the state of Modern Warfare 2 and how I'm kind of worried for it long term, and we'll go more in depth with stuff, but at least we finally have some official information, season two multiplayer, here because we really haven't heard much about how they're going up until now, so definitely some good news on that front.

Peace,
