News - Warzone 2, 1 Year Later
Man, this might be one of the last times I play this game. Welcome back to Modern Warfare 2, and we've been playing Modern Warfare 2 for officially 1 year. I always do this with the Call of Duty games, but I love to do a recap, just to kind of see how the game was throughout the entire year before we jump into it.
Did you guys enjoy it? Did you guys hate it? Are you more excited for Modern Warfare 3? Let's take a trip through the past year of modern warfare, June 8th, 2022. Call of Duty Modern Warfare II was revealed to the world. This was a sequel to Modern Warfare 2019 and was made by Infinity War. It classified this game and everything moving forward as Cod 2.0, basically a new era of Call of Duty.
I think at first the hype was on another level, and Call of Duty knew that people instantly connected this game with the original Modern Warfare 2 from 2009, about a week before Modern Warfare 2 was revealed. Call of Duty and Activision flew me out to LA to basically play the game and test it out.
I instantly knew this game was going to be controversial with the fan base. I remember in this build of the game we played, the classic mini map was on, but the developers literally told me and other content creators that it was just a bug and wouldn't be featured. In the final build of the game at this point, all we could hope for was that they were going to maybe listen to the feedback that I gave them.
Fast forward to September 15, 2022. We had Cod next, and me and many other creators had the opportunity to play Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer and War Zone 2 for the first time. I remember most creators that were playing the game having way more fun on multiplayer compared to War Zone 2. To me, War Zone 2 just felt very unfinished and didn't compare to War Zone 1 at all.
War Zone 2 did feature a brand new map, Almaza, and honestly, it's a great map, but the game play was much slower; there were no custom loadouts. The audio was bad, but there was a new looting system, a 2v2 go. It kind of just felt like it was in shambles. On September 16th, 2022, the Modern Warfare 2 Beta started, and it had a ton of issues.
People in the community were kind of just not happy. The biggest thing at this time was obviously skill-based matchmaking. I won't spend too much time on it, but I'm sure we all want skill-based matchmaking to be removed from casual play and just kept in ranked play. The other issues Modern Warfare 2 clearly had were terrible audio and footsteps that were extremely loud.
The UI was a mess, and it honestly still is a mess. The visibility and muzzle flash were absolutely horrible; you couldn't reload or cancel; there was no classic Mini Map; there was no dead silence as a perr; the time to kill was too fast; and the slow movement speed was horrendous. At this time.
Infinity Ward stated they would be more transparent with communication throughout the entire year, and even with the community going crazy and telling Infinity Ward to change the mini map to be classic. Infinity W came out with a statement and said they were not going to change it. They said the design reason behind this was that they didn't want to punish players for firing their weapons; instead, they wanted people to search out the origin of a gunshot.
I'm going to be completely honest with you; this is the biggest piece of information I have ever heard. Infinity Ward also commented on the removal of slide canceling and expressed the sentiment around the removal of slide canceling, which remains positive; they also said they have other changes for launch, which will make the movement feel a bit more fluid and snappy.
At this point, it felt like the beginning of the end of the game. October 28th, 2022, Modern War for to officially releases During this time, everyone was grinding their weapons, unlocking camos, and getting ready for War Zone 2 to release with season 1. Season 1 began on November 16th, and War Zone 2 was officially released to the public custom loadouts returned DMZ begins shoot house and shipment return.
You also get Raid Episode 1, a brand new battle pass with a new system where you can choose your own path. The seasonal Prestige system returns new weapons like the victim XMR sniper, the Bass P SMG, the Chimera assault rifle, and the M13. Modern Warfare 2 FC starts as well, with Neymar Jr., Pogba, and Messi being introduced into the game, as well as the War Zone Cup game mode, which was basically their version of Rocket League.
February 15th, season 2 begins, and this season brought a brand new resurges map to War Zone 2 with Aika. Island rank's play also began in Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer, made by Treyarch. We got new maps, including Dome from the Modern Warfare 3 Museum, which also made its return. We also got Zia Observatory as a battle map and al-Malik International as a battle map, and infected and gun games returned, and finally we got the famous hardcore mode.
Instead of tier one, yeah, I really have no idea what they were thinking with tier one. We also got Raid Episode 2, which came out with a pretty nice camo you can unlock. We got new weapons, including the Iso Hemlock, which was basically ACR; the KV broadside shotgun; the Dual Katachi melee weapon; and finally the crossbow as a marksman rifle.
Season 3 ended up dropping on April 12th, and in this season we got the return of Gunfight and new maps, including Paleo's Lighthouse for 6v6. We also got black gold, which was a nighttime map. Please, no more nighttime maps. I can't do it. We got Alberon Hatchery as a 6v6 map, and we got two battle maps: Rohan Oil and the Satik Cave Complex, which actually featured Afghans from Modern Warfare 2.
We also got a brand new raid episode in which we could unlock the galvanic and camo new weapons, including the FJX Imperium Sniper, which was the intervention, the Cronin Squall battle rifle, the FTAc Siege pistol, and the GS Magna full auto. Desert Eagle War Zone 2: We got the return of plunder war zone rank, started a massive resurgence, and redeployed drones.
We also got the introduction of Black Cell, a whole new battle pass experience. AKA more money to spend, we also can't forget about these skins dropping. Yeah, I have no words. We also got a brand new DMC Easter egg to unlock the heated Madness blueprint, the throwback audio pack one for that classic nuke sound, and finally, the most important part of this season, the Exify Alpha, dropped on June 14th.
Season 4 began. The main thing about this season was that we got a brand new war zone map that was vonell, we got new multiplayer maps including showdown from Cod 4 K Denar District, we got vondell Waterfront Marcado and Penthouse for gunfight, and we got two new battle maps that were MOA Marshin and Akar Village.
